Drapery Models for Sketchup!

A 3 Finger Pinch Pleat drapery panel, with a generous puddle, and color blocking. Just one of the styles available in my new store!

Im very excited to announce the opening of my new 3D Model Store!

As a Virtual Design Assistant, one of my greatest frustrations is the lack of accurate, real life, models of drapery treatments available for download to use in my design layouts and 3D Renderings. I have spent hours trolling the various 3D Model stores, searching for an accurate pinch pleat, or goblet pleat panel, but to no avail. There are plenty of gathered, shirred, and swagged products out there, but the reality is that these are not what ACTUAL designers and their customers are usually adding to their designs.

So - being that I love to model anyway, I thought I’d just go ahead and do it myself!

Alas - Sketchup (though I love it) is just not cut out for creating models like what I wanted - part flowing fabric, and part stable structure (pleats are usually pretty structured). Even with the extra extensions (Vertex Tools, Clothworks) that I like to use, things just weren’t coming together.

Then I discovered a program called Marvelous Designer. This is a program that was developed for, and heavily used in clothing design. It functions like a seamstress’ sewing room. Make your pattern, sew your materials together, and then simulate your fabric! I was in LOVE!

So, with the amazing tools in Marvelous Designer, and my know-how in Sketchup, I am pleased and proud to offer you the first collection in my 3D Drapery Model Store!

I’ll be starting off with variations on a simple 3 Finger Pinch Pleat, with plans to expand the line with a variety of pleat styles, and embellishments.
